The sea...it's in her blood. Yeosu is a maritime town in the Jeollanam do province South Korea. The southernmost part of Korea, Yeosu is a port city. It has a beautifully long coast line with 317 small islands off of it. It's known for it's delicious seafood and last year it was the site for the Expo 2012 Yeosu. At this Expo, people from around the world pledged to enhance their cooperation to protect the ocean for the future survival of the world.
Lily turned 5 yesterday and just like every year, we are so thankful to her birthland. Now that she is growing, she is able to understand more about her birth country. We will visit one day soon as a family...
The sea...she loves it. Happy 5th Birthday to our little beauty from Yeosu!!
Not sure if I am late to the party but "Geographies of Kinship" is a film about Korean Adoptees and their search to reconnect with their birth country. It was listed on Kickstarter...a brilliant site that focusses on projects in need of funding. SO happy to report that the filmmaker's goal amount was reached. Check it out...the preview looks beautiful.
This is a quick shot I took of the nursery at Eastern Social Welfare in Seoul. Korea JoonGang Daily recently posted an article on the changing of law in favor of Korean birthmoms. According to this, the birthparents will now have 7 days to understand what resources are out there for their support should they decide to change their minds and keep the baby. Give it a read. What are your thoughts?
In a few days, it will the 2 year anniversary of the day we got Lily. I came across this link for an organization called The Ties Program Check out the video. CHSFS organizes trips like this also and I look forward to the day where we take our own birthland trip back to Korea. I know it's a few years away but the way time is flying it will be here in the blink of an eye. I can't help but wonder if someday Lily will want to open her file and locate her birth family. In my own selfish way I hope she does, but I realize it's entirely her choice. We wholeheartedly support whatever decision she will make. Can you imagine having the opportunity to say "thank-you" to your child's birth mom? How powerful. Only time will tell.
I love photography, I am always in search of the perfect pair of boots, I get high from a good Broadway show and someday I will take dance class again. After loosing our first baby Julia, I survived 2 full bedrest pregnancies. I am a native New Yorker now living in a DC suburb. Chiropractic physician turned full time parent, I don't drive a mini van and I never leave the house without lipstick. Living life on full speed but so grateful for every second!
